May
we offer our many years of experience in proper alignment and training
of your rotary equipment? Our customers are very pleased with the
savings derived from our three month inspection and alignment service.
A common reason for bearing failure is the lack of timely lubrication.
Trunnion roll wear, damage to the surface of the riding rings and
excessive wear of thrust rollers is due to improper alignment and
training of the trunnion rolls under production load conditions. Most
frequently, the Original Equipment Manufacturer is blamed for providing
poor materials causing the wear of riding rings and trunnion rolls.
Our experience has proven, that at times, the rotary unit has not
been installed properly, trunnion bases were not square and parallel,
or trunnion bases were not set at the proper pitch. This condition
is rare, and in most cases, the unit has been erected properly.
A rotary unit will last for many years without replacing bearings,
trunnions, or thrust rolls. The riding rings as well as the trunnion
roll surfaces will work harden to a mirror finish condition with scheduled
bearing lubrication and proper alignment and training.
There are other services available for resurfacing riding rings and
trunnion rolls without disassembly of parts. This is very economical
because of minimal downtime to equipment and no loss of production.
This is a valuable service and we recommend it highly when equipment
is damaged to the point of no return.
Our experience has proven that there is a need for our (hands off)
three month inspection and alignment services, to avoid premature
damage.
OUR PROGRAM: We accept accountability for the alignment and
training of the rotary unit. We assure you (and this will be proven
by your maintenance cost controls) that under our care you will realize
TREMENDOUS SAVINGS IN THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT PARTS AND MONIES
LOST DUE TO PRODUCTION DOWNTIME.
We would require you to furnish the craft labor (one or two maintenance
personnel, depending on the size of the rotary unit) to perform the
necessary work to accomplish the desired adjustments. We will supervise,
assist and take all of the measurements. All final bearing moves,
measured with a dial micrometer will be match-marked on the equipment.
The measurements will be recorded on a chart, and this report is to
be kept in your files and ours. If in the interim, you should have
a mechanical failure (bearing, roll, etc.) we should be notified,
and the replacement can be put back into the exact position, as per
the record, again under our supervision. We will also investigate
and report the reason for the failure.
In many cases we find that personnel who are directly responsible
for the care of the rotary units, may have their own interpretation
of the adjusting and training. Often the O.E.M. instructions are not
available. Most frequently we find that many mechanics will adjust
the rotary unit to run either uphill or down, by skewing one or two
trunnion rolls (only) , in the proper direction. This will change
the position of the unit, but also puts all of the work load on one
or two rolls. This causes flaking of the rolls and riding rings, excessive
thrust of certain bearings, wear on all riding surfaces and in due
time, high repair costs and production downtime.
Most everyone is surprised when made aware of the sensitivity of a
properly aligned rotary unit, and that the necessary training adjustments
are measured by dial micrometer in increments of .OO5 to .010 inch.
